Frequently Asked Questions

Are you in-network with insurance?

We’re not in-network with any insurance providers. This allows us to offer longer, more personalized visits—free from limitations.

We’ll provide you with a superbill (a detailed receipt) you can submit to request reimbursement.

Does insurance cover lactation care?

While Birmingham Breastfeeding does not bill insurance, many families are able to get reimbursed for their visits with us by submitting a superbill (provided by us) to your insurance provider. We’ll send you everything you need to file your claim—it’s easier than you might think!

What does a visit cost?

All of our visits are 90 minutes. We offer three visit options:

  • In-home visit – $250

  • Office visit – $200

  • Virtual visit – $125

Follow-up visits are offered at a discounted rate.

We make sure every visit is full of value, support, and care that truly meets your needs.

Can I use my HSA or FSA card?

Yes! Lactation care is considered a qualified medical expense, and we accept both HSA and FSA cards.

What’s included in a visit + what should I expect?

Once you book, you’ll receive an intake form by email to complete before your visit.

During your 90-minute consult, we will take time to understand your unique needs, review your full health and feeding history, observe a feeding, offer gentle, hands-on support, create a clear, personalized care plan, and provide access to your lactation consultant for two weeks after your visit.

And if we’re coming to you—please don’t worry about the state of your house. We’re moms too. We’re here for you, not your laundry pile.

What do I need to have?

If you’re coming to the office, bring anything you’d like support with—your pump, flanges, bottles, etc. We want to work with what you’re already using so your plan feels doable, not overwhelming.

And bring your questions—no concern is too small. This is your time.

Do you offer virtual visits?

Yes! Virtual visits are perfect for many feeding concerns and follow-ups. They’re a great option if you’re out of town or just prefer!
